Move it on down to free family festival
Get on down to Manor Park this Sunday for the return of Move it at the Manor. The action-packed, free family festival from Smarter Travel Sutton is back with a host of exciting activities, entertainers and competitions promoting active lifestyles, healthy living and sustainable transport.
A bike and an iPod are among a number of prizes on offer while the first 3,000 visitors can claim free cinema vouchers for children. Organisers are urging people to walk, cycle or get the bus down to Manor Park in Sutton from 12noon where highlights will include a dare devil bike show, street performers and the City Farm Petting Zoo.
Cyclists can enjoy a check-over by the ‘bike doctor’ and take advantage of free bike marking from the police.
Cllr Colin Hall, Executive Member for the Environment on Sutton Council, said:
“It is sure to be a fun day for people of all ages with a huge range of entertainment, prizes and give-aways.
“Smarter Travel Sutton is the biggest project of its kind in the world, encouraging people to get out of their cars and to walk, cycle or use public transport.
“The benefits are enormous from less congestion on our roads and a cleaner environment, to saving people money and promoting healthier, fitter lifestyles.
“This excellent event is a great way to find our more and see how easy and beneficial it can be to reduce your reliance on the car.”
Ben Plowden, Director of Smarter Travel at Transport for London said:
"Many of us would like to cut down on our car use, but aren't sure how best to go about it.
Smarter Travel Sutton is helping people across the borough to change the way they travel, whether they are cycling to work, walking the school run or using public transport for a day out.
"We hope that Move it at the Manor will inspire even more people to swap their cars for healthier, cheaper and more environmentally friendly ways of travelling around."
Activities in Manor Park will finish at 5.30pm but music will continue at the nearby Millennium Gardens.
