SCHOOL TRAVEL IN THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM

There are plenty of other ways teachers can encourage children to walk or cycle to school using the National Curriculum. For example:

Science – Cycling and walking are a good way to teach topics like health, physical exercise and even pollution and climate change.

Geography – Finding routes to and from school is a great way kids can learn about maps and surveys.

Numeracy – How far school is from home, how long it takes to get there and how many calories you might burn if you walk instead of going by car has all the hallmarks of a fantastic maths lesson.

Active Citizenship – By lowering pollution and going green, kids will be learning how to make a positive impact on their local environment.

Art and design – Making posters and thinking of ways to promote walking and cycling in schools is an excellent creative project.

And that’s just the beginning! - There are plenty of other ways your school travel plan can link into the national curriculum – just ask your school travel advisor.

We’ll have Key Stage 3 cycle curriculum packs and Key Stage 3 media studies packs available in the summer term – so check back for free downloads.
